Free Stuff

There are so many free resources you can use to help your home education journey, so here are just a few of them:

A Deregistration Letter Template

When you decide to home educate your child, if you have already enrolled them into a school and wish to take them out, here is a sample of the letter you need to send to their school to remove them from the school’s register.

It’s important that you post this in recorded delivery, or if you hand deliver it to the school office, make sure you get a receipt, both will be proof of you submitting it.

I would also suggest emailing a copy of it into the school so you have a digital paper trail also.

You only need to send this into the school, it’s then the school responsibility to let the local authorities know.

So copy the text below into a word document or similar program, add the correct details for yourself and your child and then get it to the school before you removed them.

Your address & Date

The School Head teacher’s Name & School Address

Dear (Insert Head teacher’s name)

Re: (Insert Your child’s/children’s name & date of birth)

After careful consideration I/we have decided to withdraw my/our daughter/son from school in order to take personal responsibility for her/his education. Please delete her/his name from the register in accordance with Education (Pupil Registration) Regulation 8(1)(d) 2006, as she/he is now receiving education otherwise than at school.

Please will you confirm receipt of this letter and inform us of the date that our daughter’s/son’s name was removed from the register.

Yours sincerely, (Your name/s)
